Kihei Cafe, a local gem!

March 13, 2021

Located in the heart of Kihei, right off South Kihei road across from Kalama Beach Park, hides a true local gem.  Kihei Café!  Kihei Café offers up an inexpensive local style menu, with something for everyone. They have local favorites such as the kalua pork loco moco, spectacular corned beef hash with eggs, fried rice, and whale/honu pancakes for the keiki.

One of my favorite parts about my dining experience at Kihei Café was the outdoor seating.  We went for breakfast and got to enjoy the early morning cool temperatures while watching Kihei come to life.  During a pandemic, you really appreciate the open-air dining that is available around the islands.  Kihei Café followed all State and CDC guidelines, provided a clean and safe environment, and offered take out for anyone who preferred to pick up their food.

When entering the Café, I observed the family in front of us ordering.  The engagement from the staff, specifically the man behind the counter, I presume the owner, was above and beyond.  There was excitement, energy, and so much pride for the Café.  The knowledge of dishes and local favorites was over the top.  He didn’t hesitate to suggest what to order, how to have it prepared, and knew what would make the customers happy!   By his knowledge of popular dishes, his passion for what he does, and his recommendation for the BEST corned beef hash we will have ever tried, he had big expectations to fulfill, and he did.

Our food arrived quickly and was delicious.  We were a party of five, two local to Maui and the other three visitors from Oahu, and we were all impressed with our meals.  We each ordered something different so we could try different things.  My favorite was the corned beef hash. The homemade corned beef hash comes with biscuits that you can add country style gravy on top of.  The children ate Hono shaped chocolate chip pancakes, which they devoured.

Besides the amazing quality and delicious plates, what was also exciting was how reasonable the pricing was.  For being in the heart of Kihei, with a large tourist customer base, it is affordable and somewhere the entire family can enjoy.  I would highly suggest making this a go to for all visitors and locals of Maui.

Kihei Café is open everyday from 6am to 2pm.  From 8am-10am is their morning rush, but don’t be intimidated by the line, it moves quickly! Breakfast is served all day and lunch begins at 11am.  We left thinking, why did it take us so long to try this place?!?!  We had been missing out!  Make sure Kihei Café is on your list.
